The Stonehaven Story
Jeff & Chris
We are proud to give you this introduction to our dogs and our home. During the day, Jeff is a Senior Vice President of a large financial institution and Chris is Regional Hospital Administrator at a large Veterinary Clinic. When not at work, our days are spent actively training and showing our dogs, supporting dog clubs, and spending time with the other animals that find their way to Stonehaven. Jeff is currently the President of the United States Australian Shepherd Association (USASA) and was past Treasurer and Director. He also serves as the AKC Delegate for the Breed and is an approved USASA Breed Mentor and Judge's Education Presenter. Jeff is also a member of the Catoctin Kennel Club.
Our love affair with the Australian Shepherd began as children where we always saw the "smart little blue dogs" at horse shows where we competed. In 1994, we purchased our first Aussie "Zack" as an agility prospect, and from there our love for this wonderful versatile breed has never wavered. In 2006, we were introduced to the Xoloitzcuintli (Xolo) through friend and kennel partner J. Frank Baylis (Bayshore) and were immediately enamored with these unique and exquisite dogs. We are lucky to be the proud Breeders, Owners, and Handlers of outstanding dogs who have excelled in Conformation, Agility, Herding, Obedience, and Tracking venues, both nationally and internationally, including Best In Show, National Specialty and Specialty Show Winners, and #1 Ranked Dogs. Most importantly however, our dogs are Champions of many owner's hearts. Stonehaven Australian Shepherds has acheived the requirements to be recognized as a United States Australian Shepherd Association (USASA) Hall of Fame Breeder and AKC Breeder of Merit.
Built in 1780 and lovingly restored in 2015 before our acquisition, our home sits on Furnace Mountain in the village of Taylorstown, Virginia, adjacent to the Potomac River and C&O Canal, centrally located in the heart of Virginia wine country and less than an hour from Washington D.C. Our mountain property is a little piece of paradise for us and the animal companions that share our lives.
